Lazy Daisy

I did tell you before that Daisy is quite a whirlwind. But of course after a day of running around in the snow, even Daisy.... gets lazy! (sorry, I couldn't resist....).

... and here's my quick sketch - as usual: quite sketchy... (ok, I'll stop now!).

Playing it Safe

The basic green LEGO brick is ready to play - but it seems he is a bit anxious and is playing it safe at the moment. Let's see if he gets more adventurous during this January challenge... ;-)

Don't Toy with the Police!

Well, the toy cars are back again! To put the painting into perspective: the car is around 4 inches / 10 cm long and made out of wood. I especially love the blue and red 'flashing' lights on the roof. And if my nephew's playing with it, you get the siren as well ;-)

Snow Daisy

I've started this month with a painting of Daisy, my nieces' and nephew's dog. Here she is again, enjoying the snow on our morning walk, probably watching some kids sledding down the little hill.

Speaking of snow: I hope all my friends in the north-eastern US states and Canada are staying safe and warm!
Btw: my younger niece saw the two Daisy paintings today and was really excited to know that - as these paintings are for sale - Daisy might soon be on her way to somewhere far away!

Basic

I guess everybody knows Lego? - I loved to play with them as a kid. Simple, but so much fun. And it all starts with this basic plastic brick. From here, you can go on to construct such objects as vehicles, buildings, and even working robots. Best part about it: you can take them apart again, and start all over...

I also wanted to show you the set-up I used for this - very fancy! It's a simple cardbord box with a window cut into it and a single light source. Not perfect, but it definitely does the job.

And when working from life, it's almost mandtory for me to do a quick value sketch first - it might not look like much, but really helps getting to know the subject. In this case a straight forward subject, but realizing that the dark side of the Lego piece and the shadow have the same value (more or less) helped a lot later on...

Again, more Lego pieces are planned - I just wanted to start out with the basic brick.
This is painting Nr 3 in the "30 in 30" challenge - stay tuned for the paintings, I'll post them both here on my blog and on my Facebook Artist Page Regula Scheifele Fine Art.

Follow that (Toy) Car!

Doesn't that line remind you of all those Hollywood movies? Probably still in black and white, but then you wouldn't see the yellow of this cab...

Well, the 'Toy' part of the title might have given it away: that's one of my nephew's wooden toy cars. One of many toy cars. Very many... This is therefore only the first painting in a series of toy cars!

"Daisy Prime"

This is my first painting in 2014, and also the first of quite a lot I'm planning to paint in January: Ready or not, I've decided to take part in Leslie Saeta's artist challenge "30 in 30" during the month of January where we paint 30 paintings of the subject of our choice.

Let me introduce Daisy - she is my nieces / nephew's dog, and she's only 6 months old, so quite a whirlwind! She's a crossbreed, but we don't know what's in the mix. Probably part Labrador. She's definitely a cutie!
I've originally looked for one subject for this whole challenge but couldn't decide on just one. Still, you'll probably see more of Daisy in the weeks to come!

The idea of the challenge would be to paint and post one painting a day - every day! - during January. I honestly don't expect to find the time for 30 paintings, but I guess I'll just jump in the deep end. Let's see how many I will have managed by end of January.
Stay tuned for the paintings, I'll post them both here on my blog and on my Facebook Artist Page Regula Scheifele Fine Art
